CTA Warm and sunny, San Mateo County on the San Francisco Peninsula is graced with natural scenic beauty, golf courses, restaurants and beautiful bay-front and oceanfront excursions. San Mateo County is located immediately south of San Francisco and offers plenty of fast, convenient transportation throughout the county and into the City.

And let's face it, transportation is really the reason you're coming to the California Transit Association's 2003 Fall Conference anyway, right?

Where better to hold a transportation conference and networking event? You can fly into the San Francisco International Airport, located in San Mateo County, and take the AirTrain to BART, transfer from BART to Caltrain at the Millbrae Intermodal Station and jump on a SamTrans bus for the short ride from the Broadway station to the elegant Hyatt Regency located near Burlingame's waterfront or just take the Hyatt Hotel Shuttle!

Scenic beauty and great transportation are only two reasons this conference is the year's "Must-See" event. There is no better time than the present to exchange and advice and ideas with colleagues and learn about new breakthroughs in more efficient and cost-effective technologies. Times are tough, don't just give up and walk away. Learn how to fight the undertow and ride out the economic downturn at "Transit Takes Off" the California Transit Association's 38th Annual Fall Conference.

The Fall Conference will offer a host of thought-provoking round-table discussions and workshops such as "Commiseration, Cooperation, Consolidation: in tough times should transit agencies consider sharing staff?" or "The How and Why of Route Improvements: an opportunity to look at critical factors such as new legal considerations, best-practices for planners and technology that can help you get the job done", a roundtable focusing on "Increasing Ridership in a Downturn" and "Got Vision? Strategies for Rail Planners."

The conference will focus on workshops across all disciplines including tracks for Maintenance, Small Operators (sponsored by MV Transportation), Marketing, Information Technology(sponsored by Booz, Allen, Hamilton), Planning and Development, Operations (sponsored by Herzog/Stacey and Witbeck) and Finance.

In addition, Fred Kent the president and founder of Projects for Public Spaces will speak on the role that transportation will play in the future of city development. Kent has spoken in 46 states and 12 countries on revitalizing city spaces and creating places that people want to enjoy and he has addressed audiences including Caltrans, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the New York Department of Transportation, the Smart Growth Network and the World Bank.

On the floor of the exhibition hall, attendees will have an opportunity to network with vendors like Petro Diamond, Vapor Bus and Versyss Transit Solutions and learn more about the latest developments in transportation technology. There won't be many other opportunities for California transit agencies to network with vendors in their own backyard. Sending your employees to this conference will be a convenient way to meet face-to-face with the folks you depend on to get the job done.

In your free time, play a round of golf on Half Moon Bay's Golf Links and enjoy spectacular seaside views, visit the Hiller aviation museum to learn about air transportation or just have fun racing cars at Malibu Grand Prix and Miniature Golf.

The San Mateo County Transit District is hosting the 38th Annual Fall Conference at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt in Burlingame. The transit district operates bus, shuttle and paratransit service throughout San Mateo County and into San Francisco and Palo Alto. SamTrans also provides the administrative staff for Caltrain, which operates rail service between San Francisco and San Jose with commute-hour service to Gilroy. In addition, the district staffs the Transportation Authority, the agency responsible for administering San Mateo County's Measure A half-cent sales tax and is a funding partner in bringing BART to SFO and Millbrae.
